Spaces filled with light and harmony. Colors ranging from softness to passion. In the thematic group exhibition LIGHTNESS, visitors are immersed in a world of weightlessness and balance. Presented as installations, the works engage in a dialogue both with their surroundings and with one another. Each individual installation creates, in its own way, a sense of lightness and invites the viewer to linger along specific lines of sight—for it is only from there that the space can be experienced in a unique way.

The installation “Flowers for David” showcases Antje Blumenstein, created in 2010. The portrait of the young David plays with the viewers’ gazes and transcends the boundary between the interior and exterior of the painting. In this way, the viewer is invited to step into the painting and linger in the timeless space beside David, surrounded by lush, sweet-smelling flowers.

In the installation “Flow,” Thorbjørn Bechmann’s paintings create a space full of energy and movement. The ensemble extends across both exhibition rooms, both in depth and width. The vivid colors of the paintings make the space emotionally tangible and create a dynamic movement within the central position(s). The transparent sculpture by Antje Blumenstein lends the installation a weightless grace through its dialogue with the other works.

In the installation “Calm Seas,” past and present converge as East Asian culture meets European culture. The installation tells a story that began hundreds of years ago in East Asia and extends into the present day. Ancient Chinese ceramics, which sank off the coast of Indonesia as cargo on a merchant ship, were recovered from the sandy seabed in 1999. The works by Sebastian Herzau, Pius Fox, and Domenico Grenci reflect the gentle atmosphere of calm seas and the harmony of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging.

“Happy Memories” playfully creates a dialogue between the works of Martin Bünger, Sébastien Gaudette, Eline Brontsema and Tobias Stutz. The installation evokes memories of carefree days, which can be rediscovered in these colorful works.
